LEBA Seminars

LEBA seminars are dedicated to challenging all who attend. You can count on rigorous field work and a normal day being sun up to sun down!
Both urban and rural trails are offered and during the course of the seminar recent high profile cases are re-enacted and debriefed. Additional challenges include; contamination, vehicle scenarios, missing person, line up, cadaver, & water work.
The majority of the scenarios set up are from actual cases giving everyone the opportunity to learn from them, even the seasoned handlers.

Course Objectives

The history of the bloodhound and its use in law enforcement, scent and its dynamics affected by time, environment & other variables will all be covered. A basic understanding of the basic physiology of the bloodhound and how it works.
Court preparation with current case law will be covered with handouts being provided. A very important topic. proper record keeping & preparing for testimony will be addressed, again with recent case law. And also what tactics the defense generally uses against the handlers.
An understanding of lost person behavior & profiling will be covered. Additional tactics to utilize when involved in manhunts of armed individuals and tactical differences between night and day trailing including second man responsibilities, and escape teams.
Scent discrimination & how the dogs are trained and used in criminal cases as well as scent discrimination in the cadaver dog. The application of bloodhounds in water searches, whether lakes or rivers.
Cadaver searches & how the dog is trained and used in searches of shallow graves will be provided in both a classroom and practical setting. Other uses a well trained cadaver dog can be utilized for in investigative deployments.
Canine first aid including basics, trauma, snake or insect bites, punctures, fractures, gunshots and bloat will be covered.
De-Snaking will be offered when available. Training a dog to relate to a particular smell, as a bad thing, and to therefore avoid it.

There is a great deal of field work in relation to class topics as well, to include a challenging practical scenario and/or water search problem.
The overall objective of the seminars is to provide information and techniques a participant can take back with them and apply them in their own environments.
