Beginning Instruction

As you can see, we start the pups training at about 6 weeks of age.  First they're introduced to the harness and leash, then they're taught a starting command that will be used throughout their working career.  After that, hang on, as you are in for a lifetime learning experience for both you and your K9 partner.

Consistency in Training

Our Training Coordinators Jerry Nichols & John Salem maintain consistency with the Training Committee and all Instructors.  LEBA's goal is to provide consistent methods of training and instruction.  While the training standards themselves are consistent, the instructors are experienced enough to be able to work around a particular bloodhounds special needs. They are available to all members for training issues, case work, court testimony and general questions.  They are also available for advice when working a challenging case.

Water Recovery Work

John.tif (377766 bytes)

John & "Chester" are working from a boat in an attempt to pinpoint a simulated drowning victim.  This may be new to some teams, however it is becoming more prominent in call outs, especially in the summer months.  After attending a seminar you will have a good idea if your dog will work well around water, or from a boat.

Cadaver Searches

skulla.gif (40167 bytes)           Decomp.tif (188868 bytes)

Cadaver or "decomp" searches are of a specialized nature and the dog is taught a separate command to locate the cadaver.  These searches are called for by many agencies to locate homicide victims that are still missing.  A well trained cadaver dog is also useful to detectives who are looking for additional human remain evidence at crime scenes.  Not all bloodhounds can do decomp work, but some dogs excel at these types of searches.
